Enjoyed this lot’s last EP, so it’s nice to hear that they’re capable of maintaining the same energy and frantic pace across a full-length. They fit well enough within the modern thrash canon, but while they clearly owe a debt to Exodus, Testament et al there’s also something more primal at play. Maybe it’s because I’ve been blasting a lot of it myself lately, but I’m hearing stuff like Armored Saint, Griffin and Dark Age: that early, NWOBHM-flavoured malarkey played with gusto, gravitas and a sense of ribald, hell-for-leather abandon. Everything’s fast and knifeblade-sharp; heavy and caustic despite its inherent tunefulness. Also appealing is the sense that things seem at risk of veering out of control … much like primitive man learning how to command fire, you get the impression that they’ve just about got the hang of it, but it could all go horribly, hilariously wrong in a heartbeat. It doesn’t, thankfully, but the seat-of-yer pants thrill is there nonetheless.
