This is Lisa Walker from Wussy gone solo and doing something altogether more lo-fi and hazy than her band sounds. These tracks were all recorded before 2010 and some of them made it onto subsequent Wussy releases in fuller band versions. Having only heard Wussy’s most recent full length, I’m far too much of a novice to know which ones but I plan to look them up as I’d be interested to hear how they sound in their fuller forms. The sound here is kind of sparse and bedroomy and brings Waxahatcheee to mind here and there, as well as the catchiness of someone like Kim Baxter. There are a lot of songs on here, 18, in fact, but there are a lot of good songs too – the melancholy opener, “Jonah”, and the brilliant “Mayflies” being my pick of the bunch.
