Yet another one of those releases that’s hard to fault musically but doesn’t wrench at you on any sort of emotional level. Ewig.Endlich play that by-now-familiar brand of post-something that dollops together a whole range of styles and sounds, from epic 00s Envy-style screamo and epic 00s stadium crust to epic 00s post-metal, all of which is washed down with a big glug of epic post-WITTR black metal. Prettiness clashes with clamour and the vocals sound typically overwrought, but while the band have a keen knack for texture and dynamic there’s no escape from the sense that you’ve heard various pale iterations of ‘Auf Grund’ many, many times before.
