Pretty raging 5 song 7″ here. It opens up with a gory spoken word story about a dead rat and just goes on from there really, setting the tone from the get go. Signal kick off each song and let rip. The recording is a little rough and ready but that just gives it a real feel of being live. I said the same thing in my review of a 7″ by the Meltaways, who share members with Signal so I guess that’s no coincidence. The first 3 songs are short expulsions of energy and emotion, then “Dorks on Bikes” switches things up slightly with a more post punk slant on things, all wonky guitars, yelled vocals and a sweet groove to get stuck in. Probably my favourite track here. “Want It Worse” finishes things and is the epic here at almost three minutes long, woah there Signal who asked for War & Peace. It’s the slowest track present but no less emphatic for it.
Quality 7″, I’m a lazy music listener these days and just don’t have the gumption to go out and listen to new music in the quantity I did once upon a time, and I’m anxious enough without boosting that via frantic music. The amount of punk I listen to these days is very minimal so I don’t know how this really fits into the current scene. What I do know though is that this is very good and you should check it out.
