Labels: Neck Chop
Review by: Alex Deller
This is the fifth Suburban Homes release, but, according to the tersely-worded insert was originally slated to be their first. True enough, the band’s familiar sound is there, albeit in slightly rougher form: spare, spiky punk rock that combines a garagey delivery with post-punk spikiness and a neat line in pithy, disaffected, disbelieving lyrics. With its talk of squares, boredom and corporate takeovers I’m kinda reminded of something like ‘(We Hate The Fuckin’) N.M.E.’ as played by The Desperate Bicycles, and if it’s not quite their best material it’s still a very good slice of snarky, ennui-burdened punk bloody rock.
