Gnarly thing here from Boston that manages to wind its way through numerous different styles without sounding confused or scatty. ‘Failure To Thrive’ presents us with an ugly, scuff-knuckled blast that combines sludgy swagger, crusty Southern Lordcore and moments that bring to mind a heavy metal Shotmaker. Blurry edges jostle with sharpened angles and straight-up thumps, and along with the fairly stock comparisons that spring to mind (Neurosis, Trap Them, all those types) it’s also possible to stretch your imagination and consider wayward, unsung names like Jesuit or Gods & Queens. Not bad at all!
