Just in case the state of the world wasn’t enough to make your spirit feel like a handful of chicken bones being ground to sludge by heavy mechanical gears, here’s a new act to really hammer home how shit it all is. Escuela Grind play a kind of grindcore that I really admire: it’s mercilessly tough and each riff lands with a heavy leaden thud, but at the same time there’s a lot of flex and a lot of agility to it. Things writhe and snap with dreadful energy, and the vocal delivery is fierce enough to make your eyes sting. As if this wasn’t enough, power electronics are also deployed: monochrome smudges and unkind crackles that accent and augment the chaos, bringing to mind Full Of Hell and that record which saw Transient collaborating with Eric Wood.
