Some really mean, malicious hardcore here from The Wound – a Leeds band playing ugly, tangled, brink-of-collapse hardcore with maximum venom and strength. While Void and Black Flag at their most messed up might be good starting points, I’m minded of the more blitzed (and more overlooked) sounds of United Mutation, Tar Babies and The Scam. They have the same troubled sense of mental and physical turmoil, as though conflicting ideas and thought processes are at risk of pulling things apart. Members seem to have affiliations with the likes of Beta Blockers and No Form, and that makes sense – a warped sonic logic connects these three bands, as does a sense of disgusting, dangerous volatility.
