Two newies from Florida punx turned Florida sludgers Thunderclap, and I’m liking this band more and more as they grow and develop. The title track is a straight-up whopper, opening with some clickety riffing that recalls an old AmRep band I can’t currently put a name to (Tar, maybe?) before surging into big, graceful melodies redolent of Floor or Torche. The mystifyingly-titled ‘March Of The Wombats’, though, is where it’s really at for me: a mellow, low-key pulse that gradually gathers momentum and blossoms into full-blown glory when Ale Gasso’s surging vocals join the fray. This one is an absolute delight, and I’ve been listening to it so much that I’m getting kinda scared that I might somehow break it – an album of something similar soon, please?
