Louisville’s By the Grace Of God are one of the few Victory bands worth the steam off anyone’s piss and something of an ex-members supergroup, albeit without managing to sound too much like their various former projects (Guilt, Falling Forward etc.). There’s a dash of youth crew influence at work (particularly in the Gorilla Biscuits-style vocals) mixed up with something far more modern and involved. It’s all admirably sincere, with lyrics that are often political but not forced down your throat and aren’t vague enough to make you think the band don’t have a clue outside of dull sloganeering, enabling you to try to read more into them for yourself or just kick back and enjoy the tunes. Great stuff and little matchbook-style slipcase, too.
