Cedar of Lebanon - s/t - 7

Labels: Act Your Age – Dosei Jidai

Picked this up at a gig a long with a bunch of cheapo LPs, one of which was an album that is redefining hardcore for me. Torches to Rome – fucking hell.

Ok, onto the matter in hand. I understand this is either the only release these guys got to do, or one of hardly any at all. Arse. “Taking Out The Trash” is slow, atmospheric emo with talky and singy bits, rumbling instrumentation that builds up before the song gets a bit more aggressive and screamy. And hot damn if it isn’t sounding sort of original too. Can you believe it?

The b is “Too Far Gone”, which again kicks off slow, with breathy, almost whisphered vocals, and then it breaks into desperate screams on the chorus. Surefire way to kick me in the seat of the pants right now is to get frantic or scream and stuff. Lots of awesome guitar jangles mixed with hardcore stuff too.

Cedar of Lebanon – taking a disheartened look at late 90’s emo, and making it interesting again. Too bad they split. Grrr.
