Eiffel - s/t - 7

Jeff from Delusions of Adequacy zine sent me this 7″. What a lovely fellow eh? He’s not even in the band or anything. Just thought I might like to hear it.

Eiffel are one of the few bands that I would say fit under that much abused tag of ’emocore’. That means, they play what would lately be considered emo, and they mix it up with a bit of ‘core too. Song A is called “Long Wave Radio”, straight up emo proof there. Only emo kids would even know what anything other than FM or AM was on the radio, as they were bored enough as kids to bother flicking between channels, instead of going outside and beating up smaller kids, or stealing apples, or whatever hardcore kids did when they were small. This song sounds like a Sunny Day Real Estate / Texas is the Reason hybrid, with an added bit where they freak out and go screamy metal hardcore, then break it down into a twinkle part, followed by a fast chaotic bit again like Planes Mistaken For Stars. So lets get this down: SDRE + TITR + PMFS. Freaky 4 word band name coincidence huh?

The b-side is “To Write A Symphony”. Told you they were emo. Breaks in with more twinkling and some rather rather nice sounding rolling drums, with whineysad vocals over the top. Definitely more SDRE + TITR going on. It’s good ole rocking stuff, circa ’97 style. Thought this kind of thing had been phased out these days.

So, erm this is the emo you’ll dig if you like noisier Deep Elm. Except I quite like it too.
