Lovemen - Children Eat A Nightmare - CD (1998)

Labels: Snuffy Smile
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Love that album title. If only I could figure out what it meant.

Snuffy Smile shoots, and scores! It’s another hit here with the Lovemen, as they dish out 10 slices of Japanese, melodic punk rock / hardcore. Most of the time it’s pretty relentless stuff, a big wall of guitar flows out of the speakers, keeping the vocals way down in the mix. Every now and again, they break things down and go more gently, or just play one guitar, like when opening track “Drive back” ends up acoustically. Good stuff indeed. They also have a couple of Snuff inspired songs. Shock. Oh, and listen up for the samples, check out the Sesame Street one.

Nothing here is as great as the track on their Rugger Bugger split 7″, tending to not be quite as poppy. But if you are ‘down’ with the Snuffy Smile sound, then you can’t go too far wrong with this one.
