Penfold - Bad Hair Day - 7

Labels: self released
Review by: Andy Malcolm

More more more. Uk pop punk. Seven inch single. Band I ain’t heard. 4 tracks here, and yeah. First up we have “Bad Hair Day”, which is sort of like Travis Cut with a bit of dodgy sounding ska guitar. This is way catchy. Kerrang gave it 2K’s, I am not sure why. Following that is “No Wiser”. This is way J Church. I think it’s because the vocals are sort of off, you know, like Lance doesn’t sound like he can sing too good sometimes? That’s how Penfold sound too.

Flip it for “There” and “Nothing”. I like their song titles. “There” is pacy, Travis Cut style and again is catchy with vocals a little stronger this time. Some odd ‘rock’ guitar sounds hidden away in there. “Nothing” takes an age before the words start. It is slower at times, and again has some ‘rock’. Vocals let it down enormously. The backups are also criminal. Ouch. I prefer the A sides.

Another 7 inches of fine ‘n’ dandy, no frills production, UK pop punk. Penfold are pretty cool. Fix the singing a little, and they’d be even more so.
