Shit! Everyone take cover. Somewhere in America a rift has opened in the fabric of time and an unhealthy link with the 1980s has formed. Thus allowing House of Wires to surface unharmed in the 90s in a blaze of electropop glory.
Some stuff I read in the press release : “electropop”, “ghostly melody”, “near-jungle”, “hip-hop beats”. Erm, yeah. These buzzwords pretty much consigned this album to back of the shelf before I’d even played it. But given the fact that I could always be wrong and that its good to stretch your musical boundaries now and again – I had a listen anyway. I got to track 4 before I was reaching for the ‘mute’ button. It’s pretty dire stuff. Actually, it’s worse than dire. It’s horrific.
Please, no more electro-pop.
