Another month, another great release with KILL YOURSELF on. A HUGE rhythm section propels things along with a fat, filthy groove a mile wide, whilst the singer gibbers away with a curious fascination with his own sexuality, and barely in-tune cheese-wire guitar scrapings splutter about on top. You might have a chance to refer to The Jesus Lizard and Shellac if you weren’t so damn busy “shaking your ass across the room”. This is good shit – thank you sir, give me another!
Whoever described HUMAN FLY as “deep southern-fried rock ‘n’ roll” was clearly talking complete and utter horse-balls. They remind me of a less-metallized Frodus (pre- their final album), or a more indiefied Canvas, of which Human Fly feature a few ex-members, so they were always bound to get a mention. Now Canvas were absolutely earth-shatteringly mental, and I’m glad to report that they’re still pretty nuts, but have incorporated a bit more structure this time round. Also, the singer guy still has a brilliantly horrible voice, like Jacob Bannon from Converge with a Northern accent. Also also, their song is called “Death By Umbongo” which is the punchline from the best-ever joke you knew when you were ten.
