Glass Candy - Love Love Love - LP (2002)

Labels: Troubleman
Review by: Chris Bress

I popped this on at work not expecting much due to ok-average releases that had preceded it and was pretty glad I did. It’s a lot better than the last 12″, it’s a lot more rock. Glass Candy seem to take influences from bands such as Bauhaus, Blondie, Siouxsie and the banshees, David Bowie and even Cabaret Voltaire but seem to do so without sounding too retro. They don’t sound as basic as you’d expect a drummer, guitarist and singer to sound. They do sound quite primitive, but I think it works.

The second track, “œhurt”, has to be my favourite. It has a really basic 70s glam guitar line but doesn’t sound too pompous. Its actually really dark due to the goth undertones and wailing vocals. I should mention that at times the vocals do get a bit much, but with bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs making this sort of music but in a much poppier fashion its nice to hear it being made a lot noisier.

The record looks fucking awesome as well, one of them must have gone to art college.
