Los Asesinos De La Superficialidad - Tempers Rise - split - LP (2003)

This is such a good release from a pair of European hardcore bands that have
strayed from the norm to produce 2 sides of relentlessness (is

that a word?).

LADS kick of the affairs (well, they do when I choose to play the record) with a

dischordant set of 7 tracks that quite niftily combine elements of Born Against /

Assfactor 4 and Mike Kirsch. Pascal’s strong vocals are gruffly yelled (if you see

him, you’d never think that guy could sound like this) and sometimes he goes into

urgent spoken parts that sound great, particularly on the start of “Inexistencia”,

which is probably the pick of the tracks on here. The guitar and rhythm play off each

other to create the rumbling, speedy and rough attack. They have both personal and

politically oriented lyrics that are well worth your time. LADS is emo the way it

oughta be!

Tempers Rise rock the other side in a quite different fashion. Their brand of chaotic

hardcore is laced with feedback and harshness, bringing to the table elements of stuff

like Honeywell, but less brutal. There are virtually no gaps between songs which works

great, there is no pausing for breathe at all. The recording is kind of thin which

takes away some of the power that I am sure the band have live, but still. This is

some noisy, and makes a mockery of the trendy fashion parade that so much ‘screamo’

has become since the Witching Hour hay day.

This is a totally DIY release that anyone into emotive hardcore should support. Great

stuff. Both bands 7″ releases are worth checking too. Get to it!
