The prospect of two great bands such as Wolf eyes and Black dice teaming up is enough to excite even the most morose of the punk rock underground. I, like many, was pretty chuffed to see that finally some material from Wolf Eyes was getting distribution in the UK (check out how many releases they’ve had then think how many you’ve seen over here). This carries on their Throbbing Gristle styled noise punk attack and sees Black Dice influence them in a slight Kraut direction. The first side is made up of whizzes and whirs and other strange music that will either make you cringe or get extremely excited. The best bit is when the long drawn out space track number two goes into the furious Ya Ho Wah 13 meets Fushitsusha burst of noise. It’s fucking amazing!
The second side starts off with some low bass rumblings and some muffled drums which by the end of the side have developed into man-rock drums and eerie screeches that made up some of the “beaches and canyons” lp. By the time it gets to the dull thuds of the last track its all over. It left me wanting more and although a lot of stuff by Wolf Eyes is never quite what I want it to be this left a better impression that some of their other output.
