Ultimate Warriors - Daybreak - split - 7

Fun little 7″ we have here. On side one we have 7 songs of spazztic power violence / hardcore from the Ultimate Warriors. Mainly super fast, short songs full of thrashed out guitars, pumelling drum beats, gargled and yelled vocals. This is the sort of music you get if you slow Combatwoundedveteran down a notch, and have people in the band who can actually play their instruments at a pace where the music becomes recognisable. The stuff is nicely varied and good fun, lots of songs about wrestling, plus an amusing one called “Nailed to the Ebay”. Rocking. Hey, it’s power violence. You’re not getting anything ground breaking here, but it’s fast and it’s done well, if you like the style, you’ll like this band a lot.

Then there is the Daybreak side, they have about a million songs where they play pretty straight up fast and thrashy stuff with chuggy breakdowns. I’m more puzzled by the picture on their side of the record where there is a drawing of a kid standing outside a jail cell and he’s wearing a Mega City 4 shirt. They have a song with guitar solos. The rest of the time they just play really quick short songs with silly titles, like “My Car Is Fueled By The Blood Of Dead Hitchikers”.

Overall I think the Warriors win, but this is a well matched split. If you like fast hardcore that is fired off in short bursts, then this 7″ is one of the things you should be listening to right now.
