The Miles Apart hail from Italy and play pop-punk music with an emo influence similar to Pop Unknown, but with a more British sound, like Carver or Dugong. The only other CD I’ve reviewed from Italy was from a dodgy hardcore/metal crossover band so it was quite a relief to hear this one.
I like short albums, and this one manages to pack ten tracks into only 29 minutes. I’ve found that albums that fall into this pop-emo genre tend to be rather “samey,” but The Miles Apart have a little more depth to their sound, the background piano effects on “Looking Backward’ show that they are trying to be a little different without ever being adventurous. “Another Time Another Place’ is just about the best track, with a nice acoustic introduction followed by a loud, infectious chorus.
Once I’ve compared the album to Carver and Dugong there isn’t really much else to say, I’m sure that most people are already aware of the type of sound I mean. “Storyboard’ manages to be good without ever being amazing, The Miles Apart aren’t exactly pushing the envelope, but they’ve managed to make a pretty slick and catchy bunch of songs.
