This is a reasonably solid split release that I don’t have too much to say about, but here are some words…
Jet by Day win the battle of the bands in my mind, they play a mid-paced and meandering indie rock brooder that brings to mind Engine Down, both in the guitar and the vocals which flow very nicely with the music, building upand crashing into a classy, almost Yaphet-esque groove (one of the guitars sounds very similar) very nicely. The song clocks in at 5 minutes long but doesn’t outstay it’s welcome at all. Enjoyed.
I like the use of violin by the Blindfold Parade, and their song has an awesome twinkle intro that suddenly gets heavier, making me think I was in for some Portrait-esque screamo action. But it doesn’t quite pan out that way. the Parade indulge in some pretty standard indie / math rock stuff with really wussy and at times quite annoying vocals, and my cat is looking at me as if to say “I don’t like this”. Poor kitty. For the most part this is pretty solid stuff, but every now and again they fall down, and they try and squeeze too much different stuff into one song. The first 2 1/2 minutes I really dig, but after that, I could take or leave and start sympathising with my cat.
Not bad at all, but not essential either.
