This is brilliant. Ever since I got this record, I have been trying to find out where on earth I can get more Currituck County stuff, but I always end up down the same one way streets of the internet, having come no closer to my goal. So, for now, I am stuck with this 4 song 7″, and the track on the TMU mixtape comp.
It starts off with an instrumental title track, simple acoustic guitar playing that has a vauge Hawaiin sound to it, which makes a lot of sense, when you look at the name of the song. Additional awesome points here for the fact that one of the extra instruments used on the track is a “Fisher-Price Portable Phonograph”. My sister had one of these when she was little. It had these thick plastic ‘records’ that you’d slot in the machine and then it’d play a song like, Campdown Races, or Old MacDonald had a Farm, or Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden. After that, we have a repetetive little song called “Did I See You”, which is just guitar and vocals and a few notes played over and over. Very nice. Then one the second side, we start with “Prelude” which is a banjo track, not like YEEHAW GRANDMAW Dukes of Hazzard style, dance around with bandy knees banjo, but hey it’ll do. After that though is the standout track of this record, “Intertwining Hands” which is utterly fantastic and beautiful and wow. Guitar, Ukele and vocals on this country/folk style track. If you like the new Papa M stuff…
Throw in some neato packaging, and you have the whole kit and kaboodle. Mega good.
