This has been sitting in my review pile for months and I forgot to
a) review it
b) even play it
So now I am putting it on to blow away some cobwebs, as there is no way a record with the title “Play Fast, Die Middle Aged” can suck.
16 songs!!! Get Up & Goers kick it off with a straight forward youth crew hardcore attack, GO! I liked this, it’s fun. 2 Years After have the worst recording, really distorted crusty hardcore. I enjoy this kind of thing when it’s one song, but not when it is a 30 minute set that drags after the 2nd song. Man/Machine have ICQ samples, and then play mad arsed emo-violence. Screech vocals and shitty recording. Funny. Snifter play a track called Copsong that was recorded from a distance of 9 miles away. Basic hardcore with amusing vocals. Metally. Not good. Apart from the keyboard bit that they fail to turn into a class dance part. Bizarr Onani have a great name, and play a 2 second long song. Awesome! Sengaija is angry and crusty hardcore that was recorded on a dictaphone. Revol-Daniel have old skool Batman samples and a really catchy intro, then they start playing some song that lasts 30 seconds. “Holy Hole In A Donut!” says Robin. AWESOME!!! Blood All Over finish it off with some noise instrumental piece, funny noises and scratchy stuff. Messy.
Heldback start off side B with a catchy hardcore anthem with crew backups. “Hardcore got soul!”, GO! Offensive are next, and they sound a bit like Refused I guess. Vaguely emo with high pitched vocals and melodic parts like when the Assistant get poppy. Good stuff. Interfear play slow and chuggy hardcore with hoarse vox, then it speeds up a bit. Mediocrecore. Woo, the Jam Session! I love this band. Though this sounds nothing like what they normally do? Fast and spastic like Jenny Piccolo is how this goes. Birdflesh play a song called “Ken Is Dead” that consist of a guy screaming for a few seconds. Dtakers are hilarious, I love the fast bits with the crazed vocals, and even the metal parts are funny. Sivertson Brothers have a track that starts out acoustic then becomes like Blacktop Cadence for 20 seconds. Strange. We end on Members of Tinnitus I think, but actually I just realised I reviewed the sides the wrong way round. What a fucking moron.
And fuck you if you think I am writing all that again. You should be able to work out if it’s your kind of thing regardless.
Strange record, I enjoyed it.
