Fireside - Let Rasputin Do It / Silver Muscle Car - 7

Labels: BCore
Review by: Ian Cavell

This is old but what the heck. Two songs from Fireside; the first material I’ve heard from the Swedish post-hardcore kids since the Do Not Tailgate LP. Which is going back a bit now so I wasn’t totally sure what to expect. In the end though, its business as usual. The angular guitar riffs and big rumbling bass lines that have impressed me so greatly in the past are still present. And I still think this band would sit nicely on the Dischord label (hell, it would add a touch of energy to an otherwise staid label).

But, and as technically proficient as they are, I’m afraid I have issues with these particular songs. For while all the essential components are accounted for, there is a more than nagging feeling that Fireside have missed something out this time around. The songs are good, don’t get me wrong, but they are dearly missing the drive and full on power that this band used to harness so well. It makes for a rather non-eventful listen, rather than the major impact that you’d be hoping for.
