Sheeeeeeeeeeeeit! I had it in my head that Pg.99 were gonna be total Reversal of Man / Orchid clones, but this is nothing of the sort. They rip! Semi-brutal in that Orchid way, what we have here crunchy hardcore with more than a hint of metal – yet they overcome any simple comparisons by breaking down into these amazing, darkly melodic, emo sections in the vein of bands like Yaphet Kotto. Vocals are a cross between utterly fucked up screams and some sung like the guy in Saetia, and both tracks are highly great. Track 1 has the quality emo break, track 2 gets slow and heavy to bring the pain, before sliding deftly into this great build up with precision drums and several blasts to the face. 8 people in this amazingly great band. 3 guitars. 1 bass. 1 drums. 2 vocals. 1 guy does “noise”. Insane. Check them out.
Reactor No. 7 are utter shite though. I can never stomach this kind of poo-poo music. Hardcore with dual vocals – one guy sounds like he wants to be in the Beastie Boys, the other wants to be in a metalcore band. Just fuck off. Music is passable at times, and I like their samples, but overall, the suck rating here is high.
One reason to get this record. Pg.99. White vinyl, nerd kid.
