The Setup - Nine Kinds Of Pain - 7

Labels: Anger Management

I picked this record up, looked at the artwork, and instantly thought of the Suicide File. However, musically, it is not like the Suicide File at all.

This record has totally surprised me, like totally. The energy and attitude are something else, it is pissed off slightly metallic hardcore with great desperate, shredding vocals and it just explodes out of the speakers. The first song comes in all guns blazing with some ace samples of people screaming on about Enron, which makes a nice change from trite unity crap or self conscious wackiness. From then on the record maintains it’s quality through out its 4 songs, never feeling the need to justify it’s musicality by throwing in a melodic bit or a twinkly mid section or something and there is little trace of ‘formula’. This would be awesome live and I can’t wait for a full length. Thank you Malcolmgator!
