Paint The Town Red are from Germany and apparently are fronted by the same guy as was in My Hero Died Today, which is a much better name. The music itself is kind of Deathwish Inc-ian, like a lot of bands coming out of Europe at present (Rise and Fall, Razor Crusade etc…) or more specifically in this case, very influenced by the Hope Conspiracy, albeit alot rawer and dirtier sounding and I think will take a lot longer to absorb properly than your typical DW band.

Lyrically, it’s a lot less self absorbed than many bands in that style and even has quite a bit of politics thrown in, which this sort of stuff definatley needs a lot more of in my opinion. Less Slipknot esque directionless angst, more songs called “Personally straight to the Whitehouse and all the way back to the Reichstag”

In a way I can see the band ending up their own worst enemies as from what I hear they have quite a problem with certain elements of scene etiquette which, while this might seem a good thing to people not into attending shows to beat the shit out of each other, probably wont endear them to the bands and people they would otherwise most likely share a stage with. But sticking your neck out in a seemingly ever more conservative genre is always to be applauded i think….

If you’ve ever wanted a slightly more genuinely indignant metal type band out of Europe then this is as good a place to start as any, also the ending of ‘Murder My Heart’ is pretty emo… To summarise, definately worth giving a chance…
