Numinor - Wolves And Mice - CD (2004)

Labels: Communion Records
Review by: Kunal Nandi

This perked my pecker up, because:

a) like many good things (me, Jamelia, Timothy Spall, Black Sabbath) it’s from Birmingham.

b) it’s a 3″ CD, hence fucking up my CD stacking system, but I can at least file it alongside the Pig Destroyer / Benumb split, which is not a bad place to be.

c) Numinor has an interesting sound (somewhere between emo, metal, screamo and scratchy new-wavey hardcore) with a sinister atmosphere to the build-ups that impress, whilst not convincing with the panicky, but not overly fast, delivery in the payoffs. It could be down to the production – I demand more weight to it next time round, as the guitars are thin and the heavy passages don’t do it for me, when they most certainly could be able to. It’ll be interesting to see what they do next, but at the moment, they seem to be unsure what they want to be doing, and it doesn’t gel as a result. Diverting all the same.

d) it’s got nice artwork.
