Equation of State - Exploded View - CD (2001)

Labels: Subprofit
Review by: Alex Deller

I have had this cd for quite some time now. One of those ones that you get with a bunch of other records and just don’t really listen to. No good reason for this kind of wasteful behaviour, but quite a boon for those days when there’s a dearth of new music arriving at you door and you root around for something vaguely unfamiliar.

Equation of State play a solid brand of screaming hardcore that I strongly associate with Heroin. The band, not the drug (ho ho, the fun I’ve had with that. “Heavily influenced by Heroin” tee hee.). If you’re not familiar with Heroin then I’d first suggest you get yourself a fucking education, then politely inform you that it all involves medium-fast kind-of-in-control hardcore fucking punk which is heavily inclined to roll on the floor and have a temper tantrum because mama won’t buy them the shiny new robot which twists at the hips and has rat-a-tat guns hidden in the chest cavity (hell, they’d only leave the batteries in to corrode, thus ruining the robot and spoiling the carpet with gruesome orange battery acid.). Screaming, pounding and sincere. Hit your guitar, then quieten down, but you, singer boy don’t stop crying and sound all desperate, then all start screaming at the same time to make a chaos in my head. Speak, scream, thrash. Mention blood more than once. Give your songs charming titles such as ‘kill the whistle blowers’, ‘the ridiculous notion that we can all get along’ and ‘my suggestion is you fuck off’ and wrap in a nice orange sleeve with your words, writings and pictures inside. Sell to boys and girls with skinny wrists and thriftstore clothes who go to Get Up Kids shows armed with pipebombs.
