Fakermark - s/t - CD (2005)

Labels: pacific rock
Review by: Andy Malcolm

This appears to be a couple of years old, but what the hey. I have never seen this band mentioned anywhere at all and I rather like this 5 track cd, so I am going to write a review about it. Tough luck, m’laddio.

The 5 songs clock in at 3 1/2 minutes long or less each, and they all cram in a healthy dose of spikey emo-titude. Distorted screamed vocals, and lots of fast and riffy guitars primed with a healthy case of the melody. Just how I like it. I find it particularly easy to draw comparisons to Mohinder, what with the eagerness to play fast and slightly off-kilter nature of their sound, they have similar levels of energy and the spazzed vocals fit in there too. “Epistaxis” is probably my favourite of the songs on here, as it crams in the most chaos, as well as some superb melodic parts with sung vocals. Hits some killer grooves too where you can kick out your favourite emo dance moves. “Slideout” does the same. These songs apparently were recorded for a demo, and the recording does have an extremely rough / live feel about it, but that just helps with music like this, as I have said so often before.

Good shit! Shame it’s not a 7″.
