The Skygreen Leopards - Life and Love in Sparrow's Meadow - LP (2005)

Labels: Jagjagwar
Review by: Chris Bress

The Skygreen Leopards are part of that Jewelled Antler Collective bunch; Loren Chasse, Thuja et al. The last release from the JAC camp was a Dead Raven Choir 3″ cd which was like an Eastern European black metal band like Nargaroth or Burzum meets The Wicker Man and Tony Conrad!! But, nowhere near as good as any of those bands (or soundtracks!!). This release is sweet Summer pop music with a loose alt-country feel, and it’s very nice indeed! It can sound a lot like a poppier more commercial Animal collective at times. They can also sound a fair bit like Pavement and even The Shins sometimes, but a lot less together. It’s almost as if Sunburned Hand Of The Man did a record of almost straight up Love and Beach Boys covers.

You may want to wait for the right moment to check this out though cuz if you wait a bit longer until the Sun shows itself you may warm to this record more!
