Solvent - Apples And Synthesizers - LP (2005)

Labels: Ghostly International
Review by: Chris Bress

Solvent’s “œMy Radio” track on that Spectral Sound comp was fucking mint electro heaven, but not really electro “” it was more straight up electro pop. It didn’t sound like the great Soft Cell or the dire Fischerspooner, it was just a beautifully written synth-pop anthem.

This new record by Solvent doesn’t hold any tracks as wicked as “œMy Radio” but it’s still highly enjoyable, as pretty much everything on Ghostly International is! Like Skanfrom, Solvent rocks highly cheesy 80s synths, but the songwriting elevates Solvent from sounding like some poor electro-clash. The second track, “œRemote Control”, is more like something off the first Soft Pink Truth cd. The highlight on this though is “œInstauctograph”, which sounds like the theme tune to Look Around You. Following that is “œScience With Synthesizers” which like the previous cut sounds a fair bit like some of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop material and all things Dr Who.

“œApples and synthesizers” is a fun record which will make most parties elevate into mash-ups.
