The Dirtbombs - Dangerous Magical Noise - CD (2003)

Labels: In The Red
Review by: Alex Deller

Ex-Gories man Mick Collins is back on the prowl with the Dirtbombs’ so-called “œDangerous Magical Noise”, chock-full of gritty soul-infused garage rock that checks its coat with Motown and parties like Motor City was burning to the goddamn ground. Thirteen tracks ranging from footstomping rockers to slowdancin’ hoochie coo, all replete with primal guitars, super-slick vox and basslines so grimy you know they’re up to no good. If it fails to live up to the high times of Ultraglide In Black then it’s somewhat forgivable since Collins and Co don’t have the likes of Messrs Mayfield, Gaye or Robinson to lend a helping hand this time around, but if you’re after some raging rock n’ roll to get sexy to, for god’s sake toss that Jet cd on the slagheap and get some real style drummed into you.
