“Bangers vs fuckers” was a cool blast of San Francisco garage rock and “Peanut butter and jelly live at the ginger minge” is no different. The Coach Whips, formed from the ashes of Pink & Brown, both look and sound like typical gutter garage San Francisco punks. The music is unashamedly primal, and the production is as noisy as a garage band gets, but luckily it fits in with the band just fine. They whip through ten numbers faster than FYP even when they chuck in some slower rippers. “Did you cum?” is my personal favourite, it’s one of the faster cuts, and it sounds like classic Sonics material filtered through one of Lightning Bolt’s massive bass amps. “Human skin” is a classic Fushitsusha meets Stooges blow out, and although some purist rock n rollers may not appreciate the walls of guitar noise I sure did. They were really good live in Nottingham too, even though I received a massive gaping wound from when the singer / guitarist smashed into my pint glass.
