Now so-called “œchaotic” hardcore has been through the wringer more times than strictly necessary it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that it was once worth a squirt. Combatwoundedveteran were right there in the guts of it all, taking the loose-knit Honeywell/Gravity sound and chainsawing it to fucking pieces for some anomalous cut-and-paste mayhem directly related in artistic vision to that scene in Robocop where Emil meets his toxic waste/car bonnet-related fate.

The picture was never a pretty one, instruments begging for mercy amid a madcap series of clangs, howls and screeches while something or other vomited day-glo nonsense that, when held up to the light, actually made some kind of hideous right-on sense. Though their memory has been tainted by those abominable final releases it has to be said that garish collection still stands up as a seizure-inducing catastrophe capable of carving you into bloody lumps. Case closed. Now all that’s left to do is shovel the body parts into the incinerator, mop the sodden floor and douse the place liberally with bleach if we’re ever to mask the stink of ruptured colostomy bags”¦
