A bit Pixies, a bit Sonic Youth lo-fi summery goodness from a band with a rather silly name. The best tracks sound like a more hippy dippy version of Saturday Looks Good To Me. I found myself singing the opening track whilst walking in the sun today. It’s ridiculously catchy: ‘hanging out in Philly, trying to make some money at the Atom Spark Hotel.’ And on track 4 they start singing it again! I can’t find track names anywhere. Although there is a boy that sings it on this track too, which isn’t as good as when the girl sings it by herself. It feels right when the weather is so good and a band is singing ‘taking a walk in the sunshine every day’. They’re singing what I’m doing! In some tracks in the second half of the album it gets a bit breakbeat-y and more electronic and experimental which isn’t as good for me. Summer = guitars! Track 9 sounds like a Beastie Boys album track from ‘Hello Nasty’ or something, really! Funny/wry/silly lyrics that are echoey, distorted and badly sung are awesome. Apparently the female singer hasn’t spoken since she was four years old. Not sure if that’s true. What is true is that this record is fun fun.
