You know how some shitty bands plagiarised Lifetime badly once upon a time, well, now some bands are borrowing from Lifetime and actually doing it well into the bargain. So burn your Saves the Day cds (if you ever had dodgy enough taste to buy them, and I know a fair few people who should be ashamed of this), and pick up the Death is Not Glamorous demo and the Shook Ones LP and the Rehasher LP. You will be doing yourself a big favour. DiNG dispense 5 fast and melodic tracks here, with opener “the Fallback” busting out fantastically – a flurry of swift guitars and sing-shouty vocals. “Think You Can” loses the catchy melodies and relies more on a traditional SXE type sound, not particularly my favourite kind of thing, but still solid. The rest of the tracks are just rammed full of good tunes with energetic, driving guitars and drums, and the top notch vocals. I think its the vocals that really make this as good as it is – the guy has a great voice, slightly rough but more than capable of carrying things a long.
Really, this sounds nothing like a demo. The production is huge, which suits this kind of music perfectly – yet its not slick, or saccharine or puny, which were the problems that afflicted certain other bands that tried this kind of thing in the past. Yes, it does sound a lot like Lifetime, but at least that helps you decide whether you want to check this out or not!
