Collective Zine has a lot of types of music that it sniggers at. Bad post-hardcore is one of them. The first song on here sounds like a cross between One Hundred Reasons and the music from 80s cartoon featuring talking racing cars – “Pole Position”. And either my ears are more blocked than I realised, or this cd has been treated with some very strange and rather muffled production. You will be glad to note that In Case of Fire do not utilise screaming, but do emote to a high level with whiney vocals and lots of rock riffing. They follow that up with a chuggy song that is marginally more acceptable and there are a few moments of the song that taken on their own and removed from the whole end up sounding not too bad. This song does feature a few seconds of cringeworthy screaming, and the vocals possess the irritant qualities of sulphuric acid. They try something different on the third track but it kicks into this horrific Jimmy Eat World type thing after a bit. Track 4 is their song with the introspective build up. All post-hc bands have one of these. I skipped my CD player to the two minute mark and by this time they are riffing a bit more heavily and the vocals are still shocking. At 3 minutes 30 it finishes. Huzzah!
Well, there you go. Again I am bemused why we would get sent something like this, haven’t we mocked enough bands of this mode in the past? Should I be trying harder to deter mainstreamo bands from sending us review gubbins? WHAT MORE CAN I DO! WE HATE THIS KIND OF MUSIC! PLEASE STOP SENDING IT! If you’re going to be all emotive and post-hc then at least rip off Texas is the Reason or something.
Well, I am sure this band will continue to bodge about in their own world, and I will continue to do so in mine. Cheerio.
