Outnauts is one of the most original bands I have heard on Snuffy Smile in quite some time. They play blistering punk rock, in almost a monotone, but the guitars squeal into feedback, the vocals are yelled, and everything skitters along the tightrope without quite falling off. It’s reminiscent of something like Hail Mary (BORN AGAINST), especially in the vocals, but they also have a weird little melodic Descendents element in there too. Maybe I am making that bit up. There are two tracks, both scorch by, leaving you eating the dust. Really impressive, punk rock done in this fashion is always going to catch my ear, as is squealing feedback because it makes me think of Honeywell.

Giant Haystacks are a prolific band that you have either heard by now or completely avoided as you aren’t really interested in stripped down, straightforward British post punk meets the Minutemen type thing. It’s completely out of fashion, but they pull it off quite well. They follow it up with a cover of a song by a band called Diagram Brothers. They appear to be putting on Scottish accents. Anyways, the Haystacks are not entirely up my street, but enjoyable anyway on those rare occasions that I put their stuff on me turntable.
