Here’s a timely reissue of the sought-after “PCP Torpedo” 6″ record together with a bunch of remixes that aren’t entirely redundant encased in one of the prettiest sleeves Aaron Turner’s come up with so far. Agoraphobic Nosebleed is the misanthropic, long-running, drum-machine-powered grind band started by Scott Hull before the more traditional sideline of Pig Destroyer. Letting the machine do the hard work allows him free rein to let rip with riff after riff after riff, all with psychedelic, drug-fuelled, off-the-wall musical experimentation in amongst the terrifying bludgeon. Jay Randall provides the lyrics that stomp all over the wrong side of political correctness, augmenting the frustrated blunderbuss of rage that this band has always embodied. Some big names provide remix work. Merzbow is Merzbow, whatever that means. Justin Broadrick’s effort is surprisingly concise and pounding. Speedranch and Jansky Noise are pointlessly unlistenable as always. Regardless, this is worth it for the original disc.
