Wooderson - demo - CD (2008)

Labels: self released
Review by: Andy Malcolm

One of the neat things about the revival of the C is that UK bands have been sending their demos for review. KEEP DOING THIS! Especially if your band is any good, like Wooderson. Wooderson are a Sheffield based band, and this is a very impressive two track demo. The music is an intriguing mix of herky-jerky Dischord style indie rock, early 80s post punk, and hints of something like Slint. The guitars are both muscular AND intelligent! A sweet mix of noodling and driving groove, which goes down well for me. The fiddly bits pass into powerful melodies, the vocals are well sung, and then momentarily bring to mind Bob Tilton, and then on “Heard About It” they make me think of Policy of 3. This song has a killer breakdown in the middle before it hits back.

Seriously impressive, this is a great start, and these guys should give birth to a few fine records I suspect. I will be disappointed otherwise!
