These guys are still going?? Who knew! The last time we reviewed Inside Right on the C was the year 2000. 8 years ago. Have they released anything in the meantime? I am not in a position to answer that, but anyway. This three track demo takes me back to the late 90s, so maybe they wrote these tunes 8 years ago and only just got round to recording them. The music is a sweet blend of Hooton 3 Car, Pylon and, say, Archers of Loaf. Driving, melodic indie rock with the energy of punk. On the opening song the band breaks out of the more forceful moments for pleasant twinkles, and the up front yet still vulnerable vocals are a perfect fit for the music. Second track “Silent Sample” falls between two stools, the soft parts are excellent but the noisier, more rocking moments completely lose their way – messy and frustrating. “Snakes” improves things again, a rocking indie tune that burns nicely. So, all in all this is a decent demo, song writing needs to be honed a bit but I am always in favour of bands who inject energy into indie rock so it’s good to see these guys are still hanging around. Hopefully their next review on the C won’t be in 2016.
