Labels: Tadpole – This One’s For the Crew
Review by: Dangerous Jamie
Starting off with a deliberately elongated post-rockesque intro, defunct Brighton fastcore thrashers Burning Times seem to want to ease us into their final 7″ gently. This is a great way to ramp up the proceedings, because once we slipped past the mournful introduction to Pride there is nothing but relentless, angry noise punctuated with politico-economic exclamation points. That is, until we hit side B track two, The Law Of Dissipative Structures, where the group slide easily back into mellow pluckings until unleashing the fastest and angriest of the lot. Every track on this 7″ is bulging with intelligent lyrics, hearty fast riffs, and some of the most defiantly gripping percussion this side of grindcore.
Though occasionally marred with poor compression, The End Is The Beginning can tend to sound a bit flat, but no worse than any of the early Insect Warfare 7″. Evoking memories of Tragedy, Fall Of Efrafa, and even Refused at times, this is a welcome edition for any fan of modern crusty hardcore’s 7″ collection. Nothing says “goodbye” better than four of the fastest, angriest cuts to hit vinyl last year. I, for one, can’t wait to hear what is born from the ashes of these Burning Times.
