El Paramo - s/t - CD (2008)

Labels: Alone (Spain)
Review by: Alex Deller

Time to kick back and set an hour aside or so, because these heavy-lidded Spaniards are going to lead you across a series of fuggy, crunching stonerscapes that take that time-honoured Josh Homme meloodling and shamble off towards some hazily-uncertain peyote vision horizon. Whilst instrumental, there’s plenty to keep you occupied while each of the seven tracks wind and weave their shaggy-headed way through lunging brute force, peaceful, meditative lulls and inventive leadwork, all of which demonstrate a very clear knack for striking dynamics without ever stumbling into the tarpit of post-Isis cod epic clunkery. Pretty much excellent all the way, and just about what you’d expect from this reliable if understated litle label.
