Leatherface - The Stormy Petrel - CD (2010)

Labels: Big Ugly Fish Records – No Idea Records
Review by: Lee Toy

I don’t even know how to start this review, I’ve been excited about this album ever since I heard a rumour Leatherface were writing a new record, about twelve months ago. I had to scrap the initial review I did on this record because I was so overjoyed with having the records in my hands all I saw was sunshine and rainbows, that’s not what Leatherface do.

After a few days of nearly continual play dare I say I like it even more than I did when I wrote the first review? There isn’t much I can say that hasn’t already been said about the band. These guys are hugely influential for a reason and this record should keep them with a strong foothold for a good few years to come. Putting this record on feels like putting on the comfiest pair of slipper you’re ever likely to wear. Don’t let the bringers of doom trick you into believing this album isn’t as anthemic as say… Mush. Give the likes of “˜’Broken” and “˜’Belly Dancing Stoat” a couple of years and people will be heckling to hear these songs.
