Jan.Tenner - s/t - CD (2009)

Labels: self released
Review by: David Giles

This is pretty good. Jan.Tenner fall somewhere into the post-punk-meets-emo territory of bands like Sinaloa, Petethepiratesquid etc. Mostly, it makes me think of a more primitive Reds. It is really refreshing to hear something along these lines that isn’t twiddly to fuck. The first track is definitely the strongest: edgy guitar, spot-on half-shouted vocals, nice, unpretentious breakdown segment (1:20 mark). I think the vocals being in German adds a lot to this too as, again, it’s a nice departure from the norm. I liked that they didn’t just translate the lyrics into English on the insert and instead gave a brief explanation of the song. This pressed all the right buttons with me. Get a hold of it. Can see this band going on to be awesome!
