A cool lil two-tracker here from a new band featuring Jeffrey Mundt, once of the little-loved but rather fucking good Thug. With that simple fact in mind it should come as little surprise that these guys play low, slow and heavy, albeit eschewing the aggro noise-rock of Mundt’s previous outfit for the shambling gait of their namesake’s best-known progeny, weed-addled stoner riffs and the kind of cool, groaning melodies that fellow former Bovine cohorts Floor might’ve been toying with as certain elements teetered on the brink of becoming Torche. A-side ‘Solitaire’ is the clear winner here with its leaden pound and subtle forays into the smoky ether, but the Kyuss-inflected ‘El Sentido Morboso’ certainly ain’t no slouch either, and while this ten-minute riff-fest might fend off the munchies for now you can bet your goddamn eye teeth that you’ll be hankering for something more from these hoary old bastards soon enough.
