GIVE are really great. I could end my review there, but I doubt that would persuade you to listen or buy this release, but it’s true. After dropping a tonne of singles over the last two years and subsequently compiling their “Singles Going Confetti” compilation (one of my favourite releases of the year by a long shot) they are dropping this cassette in the interim before their debut full length. This contains a nicely packaged yellow flower strewn cassette and a fairly thick photo/lyric zine. Cool. More bands should do this, having stuff by bands you like is cool, I enjoy drinking coffee and listening to this release and looking at the zine. Swell.
Musically this is an indication of where they are going with their sound on the LP, evolving their DC Hardcore meets psychedelic grungy southern rock vibe, which owes as much as it does to Ignition as it does Supertouch. Crucial John’s recognizable strained southern drawl and catchy one liner vocals are mixed with with some softer sung backing vocals in parts which works really nicely.
This also came with a personalized letter from the band and some further inserts and posters. Sweet!
Looking forward to what’s coming next, a sweet little interlude.
