Dirtpill - Oil Tank Blues - CD (2011)

Labels: Bad Road CES
Review by: Kunal Nandi

You won’t be seeing Dirtpill play down your local pub any time soon because they are from right smack bang in the middle of Siberia (Krasnoyarsk to be exact). This hasn’t stopped them absorbing musical influences from much warmer climes though, with the bluesy rocking riffs of Eyehategod or 16 mixed in with the classic noise-rock trio approach of Fudge Tunnel or Unsane. Dirtpill take this formula and downtune it some more and up the filth factor, with some super harsh vocals that are like an instrument in themselves. It gets a bit samey but the songs rarely delve past the two minute barrier so there’s a punk-like urgency to it. I would say that they should go on tour with fellow countrymen Shit Happiness, except that they live 40 hours’ drive away. Man, Russia is really big.
